The KNIPEX SmartGrip® Water Pump Pliers (85 01 250) are one of the company’s best-kept secrets and once you try them, you might wonder how you managed without them! Just place them on the component and press the pliers together. With one press of the hand, the KNIPEX SmartGrip® adjusts automatically to the size of the component and holds it firmly without slipping.
Unlike a conventional pair of water pump pliers that need re-setting and re-gripping for each different size, the SmartGrip® does it all in a single squeeze. The automatic adjustment mechanism is designed for one-handed use and works equally well for left- and right-handed users. On jobs that involve frequent changeovers between different pipe or fitting sizes, the time saving quickly adds up. The self-clamping action also means the pliers won't slip on the workpiece, so all the force goes into the turn rather than fighting to keep grip.
The head and joint area are deliberately slim and the hinge bolt sits flush on both sides, a detail that makes a real difference when working in confined spaces such as under-sink pipework or inside boxing. The box-joint design provides double guidance for high torsional strength and stability, keeping the pliers solid even under load. A pinch guard is built in to protect fingers during use.
The pliers are forged from chrome vanadium electric steel and oil-hardened, with the gripping surfaces additionally hardened to approximately 61 HRC for long-term wear resistance. Handles are coated in non-slip plastic for a secure hold and a locking lever keeps them safely closed for transport. At 370g, the SmartGrip® is comfortable to carry all day.
