The value of volunteers

In Volunteering

This 1-7 June the CIPHE is joining charities across the country to celebrate Volunteers’ Week 2021. Held annually, Volunteers’ Week gives organisations like the CIPHE, the chance to say a very big ‘thank you’ to all those who give their time and expertise freely.

Like many registered educational charities, the CIPHE relies heavily on volunteers from all walks of life. Those freely given hours of expertise help the Institute operate and take its industry-wide work forwards. Volunteering activities include:

  • Official voluntary roles as Officers, Board Members or Membership Ambassadors
  • Participating in technical working groups
  • Helping to spread the word about membership
  • Helping to support CIPHE stands at exhibitions and events
  • Writing articles for the CIPHE’s publications/online portals.

For the time poor and the social media savvy, your support can be as little as sharing important CIPHE messaging or remembering to add your designatory letters to your profile pages – consequently, promoting that you are a member.

Membership Director, Tim Sainty commented, “Volunteering has been one of the positive stories of the past year and recent research found 12.4 million people volunteering during the pandemic, with 4.6 million of them doing so for the first time. Here at the CIPHE, we are extremely lucky to have many passionate people volunteering ranging from those able to give their time regularly, to those who can only spare a few hours a year. Regardless, we are always grateful for the drive and energy shown by our members. Indeed, volunteers have always been the lifeblood of the Institute and will continue to be so for the years to come.”

Kevin Wellman, CEO of the CIPHE commented: “My immense thanks go to all those who provide such proactive support to the CIPHE. Throughout the last year, the Institute has received more than 500 days of volunteer’s time from people representing all strands of the plumbing and heating industry. It’s a colossal figure and a testament to the passion, knowledge and expertise of those within our industry. This Volunteers’ Week we give thanks to all those who help make the CIPHE the organisation that it is.”

When it comes to volunteering, everyone has skills that they can put to good use. If you are considering giving something back to the industry, the CIPHE has a wide range of roles to suit the level of spare time you have available.
