Following research across 1,000 UK households earlier this year, the CIPHE has learned some interesting information regarding consumer sentiment to members of the plumbing and heating industry.

Amongst many headlines, the research found:

  • Two out of every three households have their home heating serviced annually whilst less than one in three do the same for their plumbing
  • Over three-quarters of households agree or strongly agree that plumbers and heating engineers will do a good job in their home
  • At the same time, over three-quarters of households are concerned about rogue traders
  • With an average cost of almost £2,000 to complete or repair work conducted by a rogue trader, the impact is significant
  • Almost two out of every three households would pay more knowing they were hiring a certified plumber or heating engineer

The last point is an important one for CIPHE members. Tim Sainty, Membership Director said, “Members should be clear with prospective and existing customers about their membership of the CIPHE and their commitment to our Code of Professional Standards. This commitment is what makes them stand out in a crowded marketplace and helps to deliver the trust and reassurance consumers are looking for. We have a wide range of resources including stationery and promotional materials that can help member to promote themselves and their professional services.”
