The quality of water supplied for distribution to, and for use by persons and properties is controlled by an Act of Parliament, the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 1989, and subsequent amendments. The enforcement of the Act is undertaken by the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), who regulate a wide range of key elements to attain and maintain the water supply quality.
