Baxi has pledged its continued support for the next generation of heating engineers by donating its industry leading boilers to two colleges ahead of this year’s apprenticeship intake.

The heating and hot water specialist donated boilers from across its diverse solutions portfolio to Birmingham Metropolitan (BMet) College as part of an ongoing partnership with the college. A total of 36 Baxi apprentices have undertaken their apprenticeships through BMet College since the two organisations began working together in 2020. The new boilers will be used by current apprentices studying for their Gas Engineering Operative Level 3 apprenticeship.

A similar boiler donation was also made to Barnet & Southgate College where a total of 18 apprentices, including eight from Baxi, will undertake vocational training and qualification this year.

The Baxi apprentices at Birmingham Metropolitan (BMet) were given the opportunity to install the new boilers at Barnet & Southgate College’s Colindale campus as part of their portfolio requirements. During the installation, they were able to gain first-hand experience of a host of features developed following a raft of installer feedback.

Sue Cole, senior employer responsive manager – apprenticeships at BMet College said: “We are extremely grateful to Baxi for their generous donation of their boilers to our gas department. This not only represents a significant investment in our training facilities, but also highlights the strong partnership we have with Baxi as leading employer in the sector. Collaborations like this ensure our apprentices have access to the very best equipment and training, helping them to gain the skills and experience they need to succeed in their careers.”

Shaun Murphy, employer engagement broker at Barnet & Southgate College added: “We’re thrilled to be working closely with Baxi, whose passion for supporting early careers aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver high-quality vocational education. Their generous donation will make a real difference in the development of our apprentices.

“This partnership underscores the importance of collaboration between education providers and industry leaders in preparing the next generation of skilled professionals.”

The duo of college partnerships represents the latest in a string of commitments Baxi has made with a view to inspiring the next generation of heating engineers. This summer, Baxi announced a four-year principal sponsorship agreement with World Skills UK, which is funded by the BDR Thermea Foundation, the owner of Baxi’s parent company BDR Thermea Group.

The Foundation has also announced an expanded three-year STEM education partnership with purpose-driven, not-for-profit organisation Primary Engineer. The new agreement will see the Primary Engineer Construction Programme connect over 3,000 pupils close to Baxi’s manufacturing facilities in Warwick and Preston, with Baxi engineers. The engineers will help the pupils from a total of 60 primary schools to develop skills, confidence and curiosity around engineering.

Paul Haynes, product, solutions and marketing director at Baxi added: “At Baxi, we’re passionate about supporting the next generation of heating engineers. By donating boilers to BMet and Barnet & Southgate College, we’re not only helping apprentices gain vital hands-on experience, but also ensuring they build the skills and confidence needed for their future careers. It’s fantastic to see our products being used in real training environments that will make a lasting impact on the industry.”
