  • The skills shortage continues

    For a number of sectors, skills shortages in the UK have been an ongoing problem for many years. This is borne out by the latest available data from the Employer Skills Survey (ESS), covering 2013. It appears that job roles in the skilled trades (plumbers, electricians, technicians, etc) are still greatly affected.

    The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE), has been made aware that some landlords are being asked by letting agents and consultants to provide a ‘Legionnaires Testing Certificate’ for their properties. They are being told that this is a requirement of the revised L8 ACOP.

  • Green Deal bites the dust!

    The government has announced the end of the ‘Green Deal’ scheme, which offered consumers cash-backs and incentives on energy saving improvements such as double-glazing, insulation and boilers. Since the scheme has been running there has only been a relatively small take up and concerns have been voiced about industry standards.
