The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating engineering welcomes the Waterwise White Paper setting out proposals for the Coalition Government to help reduce water waste and underlines the important role plumbing and heating professionals should play in the delivery of the recommended measures.
CIPHE Chief Executive Blane Judd said; “Our two organizations are working together more closely to achieve our shared aim to conserve water but we believe that educating the public to always choose a qualified plumber should be higher up on everyone’s agenda.
“It is vitally important that consumers understand the need to use competent plumbing and heating professionals who have the training, knowledge and skills required to specify appropriate products and then carry the installation correctly and safely to make these changes happen.
“There are over 100,000 plumbers in the UK spending approximately 150 million hours per annum with consumers performing installations, fixing pipes and offering advice. These professionals are ideally placed to deliver key environmental messages direct to the end user.”
He stressed: “We will continue to encourage water organisations to work closely with us to ensure that qualified installers are treated as a major stakeholder in the campaign to meet the challenges of climate change through wasting less water.”
