The FOG forum has been set up with the aim of tackling long term fat, oil and grease management issues from a variety of perspectives and The CIPHE is amongst its supporters.
According to a recent publication by Welsh Water and Water UK, there are approximately 200,000 sewer blockages throughout the UK every year of which up to 75% are caused by fat, oil and grease. Clearing these blockages costs the UK millions of pounds a year.
The FOG initiative was launched by Martin Fairley of ACO and a steering group has been formed of trade associations and professional bodies with support from government, academia and the British Standards Institute.
The steering group that The CIPHE belongs to recognises the need for technical analysis of the problems prior to making recommendations for their resolution.
Blane Judd, Chief Executive of The CIPHE said, “FOG management is an important issue for plumbers so we’re pleased to be working towards a holistic solution as part of the FOG Forum. Alongside other members we’ll be creating working groups and publishing proposals for these groups to resolve FOG management issues.”
