Today (11 March) is World Plumbing Day, organised each year by the World Plumbing Council to raise awareness of water-related issues.

As 99% of the earth’s water is either salt water or inaccessible, having clean and safe water combined with efficient plumbing is an issue of worldwide importance.

Throughout the world 3.1 million children die each year because of dirty water.
1.1 billion people do not have water they can drink
and 2.6 billion people do not have access to proper toilets.

Blane Judd, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering is an executive board member of the World Plumbing Council and has lectured throughout the world on behalf of the WPC. He said “In the UK we take clean water for granted, but over a quarter of a million homes in England and Wales are pouring dirty water straight into our rivers and steams because of misconnections.

If you do nothing else on World Plumbing Day visit www.connectright.org.uk to make sure you’re not one of them.
