"APHC (Association of Plumbing & Heating Contractors) supports the idea of a Licence to Practise in principle, as long as it meets certain criteria. For example, the current fragmented legislative framework must be replaced with a single piece of legislation stipulating personnel standards, corporate competence and performance and ongoing CPD requirements"
The CIPHE are delighted that the APHC has aligned its thinking alongside that of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering in underlining the need for people working within the plumbing and heating industry to be properly qualified and registered. The criterion they stipulate match exactly those of the Register of Plumbers and the soon to be launched Register of Heating Professionals, which already has the requirement for minimum entry qualifications, commitment to a code of professional standards, voluntary regulation and a requirement for continuing professional development.

RESEARCH REVEALS A QUARTER OF A MILLION ILLEGAL GAS JOBS
Disturbing research, released by Gas Safe Register today, reveals that illegal gas fitters do a QUARTER OF A MILLION gas jobs each year, including fitting and servicing appliances.
The CIPHE expressed grave concern that public health and safety is also being compromised by the number of unqualified plumbing and heating jobs being undertaken by those who are not Registered Plumbers or plumbing qualified revealed by this Gas Safe research.
"Whilst we are clear that Gas Safe registration must be checked if gas work is being carried out in your home, we are also urging the public to ask to see proof of Plumbing or Heating qualifications too. It is not safe to assume that someone who is Gas Safe Registered is qualified to carry out plumbing work, ask if they are a Registered Plumber or plumbing qualified if they will be doing work on the water and heating systems in your home"
