Awards

Master Plumber Certificate

The term Master Plumber is now a name synonymous with excellent workmanship.  The Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering, the Worshipful Company of Plumbers and the City & Guilds of London Institute award the Certificate jointly, with full backing from ECuk and valuable input from the National Association of Plumbing Teachers.  The aim of the Certificate is to heighten the level of achievement one can attain as a plumber.

Requirements for recipients of the Master Plumber Certificate are strict.  Any Member (MCIPHE) or Fellow (FCIPHE) of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering can apply for the Master Plumber Certificate provided the minimum criteria below has been attained and clearly demonstrated :

  • that they are a Member (MCIPHE) or Fellow (FCIPHE) of the CIPHE and also hold the description of 'Registered Plumber';
  • that they are qualified to City & Guilds Advanced Craft Level or S/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and be accepted for City & Guilds Licentiateship;
  • that they are registered with ECuk at either Engineering Technician/ Incoporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer level;
  • that they conform to the CIPHE's Code of Professional Standards while in membership of the Institute;
  • that the applicant has been engaged in the industry for at least 10 years;
  • that there are no significant complaints on the applicant's Institute record;
  • that two nominated referees sign the application.

The scheme enhances the status of Registered Plumbers who hold the Certificate by showing that they care enough about high standards in plumbing to take their own ability to a height associated with Mastery of the art, craft, science and practice of plumbing.  Following submission of all relevant documents, successful applicants will receive a certificate carrying the signatures of the President of the Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering, the Master of the Worshipful Company of Plumbers and the Chairman of the City & Guilds of London Institute respectively.

City & Guilds Senior Awards

City & Guilds Licentiateship (LCGI), Graduateship (GCGI) and Membership (MCGI) recognise personal achievement and the application of professional knowledge in the workplace, allowing progression to the very highest levels of achievement.  They are similar in level to foundation, honours and masters degree levels and are tailor-made to match individual workplace experience.

Membership with CIPHE can assist with obtaining an award with City & Guilds at Licentiateship and Graduateship levels.
